Marketing Manchester's new economy reports estimate that the region will need an additional 20,400 people across Greater Manchester to manage the industry's expected growth between 2014 and 2020.

ANTZ and Marriott have been working in partnership 2013, when Marriott joined the network.

The training delivered through the new Marriott Academy has been designed to give the locally unemployed, or those who have not previously been given access to training, the chance to not only learn about but work in, Manchester’s thriving hospitality sector, ultimately opening new employment opportunities for them.

The academy delivered a three-week intensive employability and customer service training course, which was then followed by a three-week work experience placement and a guaranteed interview with Marriott.

The work experience portion of the programme was split between these three Manchester Marriott locations: Marriott Manchester Airport, Renaissance Manchester City Centre Hotel and Worsley Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club.

Testimonials
Nicola Staley, Director of Sales & Marketing Marriott, Manchester

The Academy is not only a great way to invest back into our local communities but is also a chance for us to really engage with individuals locally on a one-to-one basis and help pass on our core value of Spirit to Serve. Although Marriott and Renaissance Hotels have a huge international brand behind them, we are also hugely proud of our work to support and invest in our local communities which is typified by this project alongside ANTZ.

Peter Nicholson, Cluster Director of Human Resources Marriott & Renaissance Hotels Manchester

Hospitality can be a hugely rewarding industry to work in. If you show a good work ethic then there will be plenty of opportunities open to you as Manchester's hospitality industry develops and grows.

2017 Marriott Academy Participant

The project has helped me to find work, develop skills, and given me more confidence.

2016 Marriott Academy Participant

I have found that the project has helped find that extra bit of confidence that I have been lacking.

2016 Marriott Academy Participant

The Marriott Academy was life-changing for me. I built confidence and helped me to decide what I did and did not want to do with my career. I was lucky enough to gain employment and have not looked back since.

Jen Gillies Pemberton, Founder & CEO ANTZ

This is a wonderful way for those who have not previously been given the opportunity, to learn, engage and get the experience of working with one of the biggest and best hospitality brands in the world. Whether they get a job with Marriott directly following the programme, with another company, or just leave with improved confidence and ultimately become more employable, we would consider the project a huge success.
