ANTZ Bitesize Social Value Update

A bitesize introduction to ANTZ New Beginnings Programme.

Delivered by:

  • Alex Robinson, ANTZ UK
  • John Chapman, Antz Junction

The Kick-Start programme was developed by ANTZ during the first 2020 lockdown, after supporting our sister charity Antz Junction to deliver an online employability skills workshop which saw over 108 people register.

ANTZ realised there was a new ‘need’ emerging within our communities and that our communities were in crisis.

This is where the Kick-Start journey began and with the support of ANTZ network partners (who donated their time to work alongside the team at ANTZ) we developed a series of workshops that utilised the talents and expertise found in the network to deliver relevant content which addressed the changing needs of our communities as the pandemic evolved.

ANTZ UK donated over 100 business hours to develop and deliver the Kick-Start programme online, by utilising its business led, community driven strategy and linking with ANTZ partners, including sole traders and micro organisations as well as continuing to grow our skills within Microsoft Office 365, specifically Teams.

The result was the creation of the following six online workshops which were Kick-Start Your...

  • Job Search;
  • Health & Wellbeing;
  • Own Marketing Strategy;
  • Social Media for Work;
  • Own Business or Charity;
  • Professional Networking.

ANTZ’s business led, community driven approach enabled six micro and SME ANTZ Network Partners to be part of a larger supply chain by joining a social giving framework that empowers “directed giving by local business”, putting purpose before profit.

Result: Time donated 305 hours + resources to develop and deliver the workshops (34.5 hours of delivery over 23 events).

In 2020 the Kick-Start programme impacted over 200 people, 35% of those that attended the workshops were previously employed in senior/professional positions, 30% of attendees had been unemployed in the last 12 months, suggesting COVID-19 was a factor in their unemployment status.

Moving into 2021 the need from community is still very real, so it’s time to expand and continue to develop this framework.

Our first task was to re-brand and differentiate the programme following the launch of the Government Kickstart Scheme in July 2020 which helps employers, by providing funding for them to create job placements for 16 to 24 year olds.

It was important that our programme maintained our values and ethos, specifically no criteria to be met for attendance, free to all, ensuring everyone has a seat at the table.

From September 2021 Kick-Start will be known as ‘New Beginnings’.

The re-brand clearly defines the purpose of the programme: to deliver a new start, a new beginning.

The programme can be an entry point into ANTZ or be a pathway through,  ensuring everyone can access support to make different life choices.

Even though the name has changed, the mission and ethos remain the same and ANTZ will continue to support and work with our network partners and our communities to find the best pathway through this ongoing crisis.

You will need internet access to participate and Microsoft Teams which is available via your Web Browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox etc.) Instructions will be given when you register.
