HOW ARE YOU TODAY?
What, Why, How?

On a plane it is essential to put on your oxygen mask before helping someone else.

We can use this same analogy for our own health and wellbeing. How can we look after our family, business, everyday life if we are first not prioritising our own needs? At ANTZ we believe it’s not only imperative to you and your family but also paramount to people in work and we see skills and health and wellbeing sitting side by side.

Improved health and well-being can help you to:

Feel calmer and more in control every day

Sleep better

Think more clearly

Build self-confidence to take your next steps towards your goals

The World Health Organisation class ‘Wellbeing’ as a keyword in the WHO definition of health: “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.

This definition takes the notion that we should be proactive about our health & wellbeing rather than waiting until we feel unwell to take action. Staying on top of our mental wellbeing is good for us right now but also helps us deal manage difficult times in the future. Over time, it can also reduce our risk of physical health problems.

Why should you care about your own Health & Wellbeing?

Having good wellbeing can help you to:

• have confidence and positive self-esteem

• have good relationships with others

cope with stress and adapt when things change

Due to lockdown, restrictions, loss of loved ones, consuming high-stress media and being separated from family and friends, Covid-19 has contributed to a mental health emergency through the UK and the rest of the world. The effects from 2020/21 will have a lasting effect on people which is why we need to make health & wellbeing a priority in and out of work

Covid-19 and the nation’s mental health confirms that 10 million people in England will need support for their mental health as a direct result of the pandemic over the next three to five years.

Why should you care about your employees Health & Wellbeing?

Employee absenteeism is estimated to cost the UK economy £18 billion per annum, with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) reporting an average of 6.6 days of absence per employee. Poor mental health has a huge impact on employee wellbeing and can be a major cause of absence from work, with 1 in 6 British workers being affected by conditions like anxiety, depression and stress every year. Note that these figures are pre-pandemic.

As we have established, Covid-19 has increased mental health issues through the population which will directly affect all workforces. Supporting employee’s mental health, not only demonstrates a level of care and understanding but will in-turn increase productivity and build a happier workforce.

Research carried out by the CIPD, FSI and the government identifies benefits for employers of increasing their focus on employee wellbeing including:

• Better employee morale, motivation, and engagement

• Healthier performance and a more inclusive culture
